In recognition of significant contribution in high dimensional data analysis, his statistics research leadership and impact in China,  and his outstanding service in several committees in the past years including the board of directors, program committee, and awards committee of ICSA,  as  a member in the editorial board of Statistica Sinica since 2005, and as a co-chair of the 9th ICSA conference in 2013.
