About the ICSA Student Service Award
The ICSA Student Service Award will be presented annually to a student member: “In recognition of outstanding service, leadership, and unselfish contribution to the International Chinese Statistical Association and its activities.” Normally, one recipient will be selected each year; corecipients may be considered in exceptional cases.
Eligibility
Nominees must:
- Be ICSA members in good standing for at least one year;
- Be a current student (undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral), or have completed their degree within one year of nomination;
- Demonstrate meaningful service to ICSA, including involvement in at least one ICSA sponsored activity (e.g., conference support, committees, student initiatives);
- Previous recipients of the ICSA Student Service Award are not eligible.
Evaluation Criteria
Nominations will be evaluated holistically based on
- Impact of service to ICSA programs, members, or initiatives;
- Leadership and initiative, including responsibility beyond routine participation;
- Alignment with ICSA values, such as mentoring, collaboration, and inclusiveness;
- Sustainability and significance of contributions. Research excellence is not a primary criterion, distinguishing this award from research focused student honors.
Nomination Process
A complete nomination package will include:
- Nominee’s current CV (highlighting service activities);
- Nominator’s cover letter (≤ 2 pages) summarizing service contributions and impact. Optional support letters are encouraged but not required.
Nominations will be submitted to the ICSA Award Committee Chair with the subject line: “ICSA Student Service Award Nomination.” The deadline for nomination will be announced by ICSA yearly. Nominations can be submitted by a student’s faculty advisor or ICSA members. Self-nominations are welcome.
Administration and Recognition
The award will be administered by the ICSA Award Committee, consistent with existing award governance. The ICSA Award Committee will review all nominations. Each nominee will be evaluated based on the eligibility criteria, quality of service, leadership demonstrated, and overall impact. The committee will recommend one recipient to the Executive Committee for final approval. The recipient(s) will be announced at an ICSAsponsored conference or major meeting. Awards may include a certificate or plaque and, subject to budget approval, modest recognition support.
