Dr. Wai Keung Li and Dr. Jun Shao

Wai Keung Li, University of Hong Kong

Professor Wai Keung Li received his PhD in Statistics from the University of Western Ontario in 1981. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, University of Hong Kong since 1983. Professor Li has published widely in time series analysis and was conferred an ASA Fellowship in 2003 and an IMS Fellowship in 2006. Besides being research active he has been heavily involved in administrative and professional services. He served two 3-year terms as the Head of the Department in 1997-1999 and 2006-2008 respectively. He was elected for three successive years as the President of the Hong Kong Statistical Society from 2000 to 2003. Professor Li was Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 5th ICSA International Conference held in Hong Kong, August 17-19, 2001. He has been serving as an Associate Editor of Statistica Sinica since August, 1999 and was a member of the ICSA Program Committee 2002-2007 and a member of the ICSA Board of Directors for 2006-2008.

Jun Shao, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Jun Shao is Professor in Statistics and Chair, Department of Statistics, University of Wisconsin – Madison. He was Associate Chair from 1997 to 2005. He was Covance Senior Research Fellow (1998), ASA/NSF/Census Senior Research Fellow (2006-2007), and ASA/NSF/BLS Census Bureau Senior Research Fellow (1996-1997). He received his PhD in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1987. He has made significant contributions in jackknife, bootstrap, and other resampling methods, model and variable selection, variance estimation and imputation methodology in survey problems, longitudinal data analysis with missing data, bioequivalence, drug shelf-life estimation, and clinical trials. Professor Shao has authored or co-authored 6 books and more than 145 research articles in leading statistical journals.

He has supervised more than 18 PhDs. Professor Shao has been an associate editor for Statistica Sinica since its inception in 1991. He was an associate editor of the Journal of American Statistical Association (1993-1996; 1999-2005) and a co-editor for Journal of Multivariate Analysis (2002-2005) and Sankhya (2002-2007). He is an associate editor of Statistics and Its Interface (2007-present). Professor Shao is a Fellow of The Institute of Mathematical Statistics (1996) and a Fellow of The American Statistical Association (1999).

Professor Shao is a permanent member of ICSA, served on the ICSA Board of Directors from 2000 to 2002 and served as the president of ICSA in 2007. He has also served on the Management Board of Statistics and Its Interface since 2007.
